What SHA‑256 Is
SHA‑256 is a cryptographic hash function from the SHA‑2 family, designed by the U.S. National Security Agency (NSA) and first published in 2001. It produces a 256‑bit (64‑character hex) hash, no matter how large the input is.
What SHA‑256 Does
Takes any input (text, file, data)
Processes it through 64 rounds of internal transformations
Outputs a fixed‑length 256‑bit digest
Always produces the same hash for the same input
Cannot be reversed (one‑way function)
